Announcement from February 6th, 2018
Happy February!

  • NO SCHOOL for students – Monday, February 19 and Tuesday, February 20 due to Professional Development Days.
  • Report cards – Available on Skyward Family Access.  If you have questions about this, please contact Mrs. Garbe in the main office.
  • Yearbook money and order forms – Due February 23 (forms sent home last week)
  • Candid photos and group photos for the yearbook will be taken at school on February 27.
  • Fun on the Run!  See information about this special lunch option for February.  Fun on the Run - Sodexo 
  • Our UWM nursing students will begin this week!  Please ask your child about meeting them.
  • Kristine from SaintA will begin on Tuesday.  A letter was sent home last week.  Here is a copy for your reference.  SaintA intro letter 
  • Our 3rd quarter parent/teacher conference night will be Wednesday, March 21st.  Conferences will only be held for some students.  If you have questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher.

  • Wednesday, MARCH 21, 2018 – grade 3 and grade 4 concert

  • PTA Carnation sale – ordering period has closed.  Carnations will be delivered on February 14th.

Current 5th graders – IMPORTANT DATES:

  • February 9th – THINK! Sessions begin with Officer Nelson
  • February 9th – Human Growth and Development for 5th graders, 12:45pm
  • February 15th  – 6th grade preview night for families, 6-7:30pm (at your assigned intermediate school – see Mrs. Garbe if you need this information)

Announcement from January 22nd, 2018:

Hello!

  • Report Card update – Report Cards will be posted to Skyward Family Access on Monday, January 29th (note date change).  If you are having issues with Family Access, please contact Mrs. Garbe in the main office.
  • 4K Info Night – DATE CHANGE!  This is for new 4K families.  Registration for 4K and 5K begins on February 1st.

Tuesday, January 23rd from 6-7pm at Horace Mann in the auditorium (remains the same as previously stated)


Thursday, January 25th from 6-7pm at Hoover Elementary in the Multipurpose room (NEW location & date)

  • New UWM Nursing students will be at Longfellow Wednesdays during 2nd semester.  Each classroom will have lessons (things like handwashing, dental health, nutrition) provided by the nursing students.  Students also work with school staff to address health and attendance problems for students and families. 
  • On January 23 and 24, grades 1 and 4 will be attending the Survive Alive house field trip.  
  • February 19/20 – NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS.  
  • February 21st – 2/3rd grade concert.  Please look for information coming home from Mr. Zettlemoyer if you have student(s) in these grades.  
  • February 27th – Yearbook group photos (clubs) and candid photos

Announcement from January 8th 2018:

Happy New Year, Longfellow Families!

  • PTA News
    • Next meeting – Tuesday, January 9, 7:45am
    • PTA Game Night/Longfellow Tech Night – Wednesday, January 17 (look for RSVP form coming home soon!)
    • PTA Snowball dance – Friday, February 23!  Look for more info coming soon.
  • 5th grade parents – Human Growth and Development Parent Night – Wednesday, January 10, 6-7pm at Irving Elementary School
    • 5th grade parents will be receiving a letter with details about our HGD session(s) at Longfellow in the next couple of weeks
  • NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS – Monday, January 15 and Monday, January 22
  • 2nd quarter ends on January 19.  Report Cards will be posted to Skyward Family Access on Friday, January 26.  Please take a look.  Let Mrs. Garbe know if you have any questions or issues with Family Access.
  • 4K/5K enrollment (for next school year) begins on February 1.  There will be (2) 4K parent information nights available for new 4K parents to attend:
    • January 23 – Horace Mann Elementary, 6-7pm
    • January 26 – Mitchell Elementary, 6-7pm
  • Our Longfellow Spelling Bee will be held on Tuesday, January 16.  Our finalist(s) will move on to the District Bee held on January 25.
  • 1st and 4th graders will be headed to Survive Alive (fire safety) trip on January 23/24.
  • 5th graders will begin the THINK! Curriculum with Officer Nelson on February 9th.  This program runs once per week (for 5 weeks). 
  • Remember to dress your students for the weather!  We will go outside before school and at lunch recess if the temperature is above 10 degrees (with wind chill).  When we have snow, students must have boots to go on the Tot Lot.  Student must have boots AND snowpants to be on the snow hill in the back of the playground.
  • Wednesday Folder Reminder…please makes sure you return Wednesday folders back to school the next day.  They come to the office and get “re-stuffed” for the following week.  We are trying to streamline the communication process and make sure all parents are getting informational flyers in a timely manner.
  • Please make sure (if you have not already) you are signed up for Class DOJO (through your child’s teacher).  Also check our Longfellow Facebook page and Longfellow School webpage for updates and positive things going on at Longfellow. 


Announcement from December 11th 2017:
Hello Longfellow Families!

  • Reminder - we are currently participating in our school-wide ready of Friendship According to Humphrey!  Students can earn movie tickets for answering morning trivia questions correctly.  You can find a copy of the questions here:  One School, One Book information
  • Tuesday, December 12, 2017 is our Winter Concert for grades 4K, 5K 1st, and 2nd.  ONLY students in these grade levels will be performing.  We have a dress rehearsal at 9:30am and a performance at 2:00pm.  Doors for the afternoon performance open at 1:30pm (after we get the gym cleaned up from lunch).  
  • Tuesday, December 19, 2017 is our Band, Orchestra, Choir and Suzuki/Prelude concert.  Dress rehearsal at 9:30am, performance at 2:00pm. 
  • Ask your child about our new "Calming Corners" available in each classroom.  They can explain to you how we use the Zones of Regulation (color codes for each type of feeling) to help ourselves.  If you have questions, see Ms. Friedkin, our school counselor. 
  • Is Your Child Too Sick for School?   Some reminders:
    • children should be 24 hours fever-free without medication before returning to school
    • children should stay home if fever is over 100 degrees.  
    • children should be 24 hours free of vomiting or diarrhea without medication before returning to school
  • Reminder - Family Access is available on our Skyward system!  You can view student report cards and also update phone numbers!  If you are having trouble accessing, please see Mrs. Garbe in the main office. 
  • Our Winter Break runs December 23-January 2nd.  Children return to school on Wednesday, January 3, 2018.  Please plan ahead!  The Rec Department has many great offerings over the break - check out their website or refer to the various flyers sent home in Wednesday folders. (REMEMBER...folders go home every Wednesday and should be returned to school on Thursday).

Announcement from Nov 27th:
We hope that everyone had a joyous and restful Thanksgiving holiday. 

  • This week Wednesday, November 29th is Longfellow Literacy Night from 6-7:30pm.  We will have the "big reveal" of the book chosen for our One School, One Book initiative this year.  Please return pink RSVP form if you plan to attend.  The Scholastic Book Fair will be open in the gym (not by the IMC as originally planned) as part of this event. 
    • All staff and all students will read the same book as part of the One School, One Book initiative. 
    • There will be daily trivia for prizes as part of reading the book.  We will also have a school-wide celebration the week before Winter Break.  
  • This Thursday will be our November DOJO incentive.  All students with 80% positive DOJO points will participate.  Please talk with your student(s) at home about what it means to Respect Self, Respect Others, and Respect Environment.  We hold incentives for students every month based on Class DOJO.  If you have not done so already, please sign up with your child's teacher. 
  • Longfellow is again having their annual school-wide gift exchange.  See information and donation letter here:  School Supply donation letter

  • The concert season is here!  The Longfellow Winter Sing (for grades K4, K5, 1st and 2nd ONLY) will be Tuesday, December 12, 2017.  There will be a dress rehearsal at 9:30am and the performance will be at 2:00pm.  Doors will open at 1:30pm.  Please review letter sent by Mr. Zettlemoyer, our music teacher,  last week and contact him with questions. 
  • The BOPSC (Band, Orchestra, Prelude/Suzuki, Choir) concert will be Tuesday, December 19th, 2017.  Dress rehearsal at 9:30am, performance at 2:00pm. 
  • PTA News:  The PTA will be holding a Santa Shop with the Action 330 program from December 4-December 8, 2017.  Look for flyers to come home this week with more information.  Students may shop AFTER SCHOOL 3:30-5:30pm if they return the money envelope.  Contact Joyce Schill (PTA president) with questions at 414-943-0251.   Please note that there is NO MEETING for PTA during December.  The next meeting will be January 9th at 7:45am.  
  • On Wednesday, December 6th, Sodexo will organize their annual "Serving Up Smiles" event.  On this day, we have a pre-arranged military service men and service women eat lunch with students.  As part of this, we are asking our classrooms to participate in "Operation Gratitude" between now and Winter Break.  Students will be making cards for military personnel who are stationed overseas.  
  • Unfortunately, we will not be offering our Holiday Gift Market with the Ridge Church this year.  This was a very special event and we are sorry that it will not continue. 

Planning ahead - Winter Break begins on Monday, December 25 (last day is Friday, December 22).  Students return to school on Wednesday, January 3, 2018.  



Announcement from Nov 13th:
  • 1st quarter report cards are available for viewing through Skyward Family Access.  You can see directions here: Skyward Family Access Directions 
  • Make-Up picture day is TOMORROW - Tuesday, November 14th.  Only new students, those who missed picture day, and those who want re-takes will have their picture taken. 
  • Longfellow Literacy Night will be Wednesday, November 29th from 6-7:30pm.  We will have the BIG REVEAL for which book was chosen for our One School, One Book initiative this year.  Look for clues on our Longfellow Facebook page.  We cannot wait to find out!  Our Scholastic Book Fair will also be open during this time so that you can purchase books and holiday gifts. 
  • The cold weather is here!  We will go outside anytime the temperature is above 10 degrees (we follow the Feels Like or Wind Chill temperature).  We look at the weather and make a determination at 11:30am each day.

Thanksgiving Break will begin for students on Wednesday, November 22nd.  We will see all students back at school on Monday, November 27th.  Enjoy your time with family, friends, and loved ones!
